Cookie Policy

Last updated: 24 June 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Apexodd (the “Site”) uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read alongside the Privacy Policy. The Site is operated for adult readers in the United Kingdom and the policy is drafted to align with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR consent standard enforced by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit. Cookies are read back to the website on subsequent requests and allow the site to recognise your device, remember preferences and, in some cases, measure how the site is used. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage, pixel tags — work in comparable ways and are covered by this policy where they apply.

Cookies we use

The Site keeps its use of cookies to a minimum. The categories below describe the cookies the Site may set, and why.

Strictly necessary cookies. These cookies are essential for the Site to function. They include a session identifier used by the web server to handle requests reliably, and a cookie used to remember whether you have accepted or rejected non-essential cookies in the banner. These cookies do not require your consent under PECR because they are strictly necessary for the service you have requested.

Analytics cookies. Where you have given consent through the banner, the Site may set cookies used by a privacy-respecting analytics tool to count visits, identify popular pages and understand how readers move through the Site. Analytics data is aggregated and pseudonymised where possible. These cookies are loaded only after consent is given and can be refused without affecting your ability to read the Site.

Functional cookies. If you change the cookie banner setting or any other preference exposed in the future, the Site may store the choice in a cookie so that the preference persists across visits. These cookies hold only the preference itself, never identifying data.

The Site does not set advertising cookies. The Site does not run programmatic advertising. The Site does not embed third-party tracking pixels for social networks. If any of that changes, this policy and the cookie banner will be updated before the relevant cookies are set.

Third-party cookies

Where the Site embeds an external service — for example, a font from Google Fonts or a content delivery network — the third party may set technical cookies necessary to deliver that resource. The Site does not control those cookies and relies on the third party’s own privacy notice for the precise detail. The Site selects third parties that take a minimal approach to cookies.

How long cookies last

Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies have a defined expiry date. The cookie that records your banner choice typically expires after twelve months so that you are asked again periodically. Analytics cookies expire in line with the configured retention of the analytics tool, generally no longer than 14 months.

Managing your preferences

You have three independent ways to control cookies on the Site.

  • The cookie banner. When you first visit, the Site presents a banner asking whether you accept non-essential cookies. You can accept, reject, or revisit the choice later by clearing cookies for the Site and reloading.
  • Your browser. Every major browser allows you to block cookies, delete cookies for a specific site, or set a general policy. The exact controls are documented by your browser vendor.
  • Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Where the Site detects an explicit Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, it treats that as a refusal of non-essential cookies for that visit.

If you reject non-essential cookies, the Site will still function normally. You will lose access only to the analytics measurement that helps the editorial team understand which articles are read.

International readers

The Site is published from the United Kingdom for UK adult readers. Readers visiting from outside the UK are served the same cookie banner and the same set of cookies. Where local consent rules differ from UK rules, the stricter standard applies as a matter of editorial choice.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected in the cookie banner so that consent can be reviewed where required.

Contact

For questions about cookies or about this policy, please use the contact channel published on the About Us page. Put “Cookies” in the subject line so the editorial team can route the message correctly. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk if you believe the Site’s use of cookies falls short of UK law.
